Litter Picking Group

A small group of villagers have got together to form a litter-picking group in their local community, with the aim of keeping it free of rubbish.
It comes as Woore Parish Council members noticed an increase in litter around the village recently, although they said they were not sure why. With support from Shropshire Council and Woore Parish Council, the group has been provided with pickers, bags, vests and gloves.
Helen Jackson, clerk of Woore Parish Council, said: “The parish council had wanted to do it for some time, but had initially struggled to find volunteers. It’s a group of volunteers and on their weekly walks around the parish they can do it at a time that suits them – and it’s a real asset to the parish. “We have been seeing an increase in litter and we are not sure why and the reality is with funding cut backs at the moment, having residents do it is a real benefit.”
